Level 1 data (data base) : times series (down to <0.1s) of backscattered power (P, P+, P-) and radial velocity (V+max, V-max, Vmoy) parameters for each of the range gates Level 1 data (on demand) : spectograms of full Doppler spectra as a function of time
Data acquisition : Continuous measurements were performed at Popocatepetl volcano (5426 m a.s.l.) in Mexico, using L-band volcano Doppler radars of OPGC in order to study the dynamics of the explosive activity generating ash plumes. The project, initiated with INSU-CNRS CT3 program and OPGC-UCA funding, was carried out by Franck Donnadieu (PI), Claude Hervier and Patrick Freville at OPGC, in collaboration with CENAPRED and the UNAM (Dept. Sismologia and SSN). It comprised 2 campaigns: (i) in 2007 during sparse, weak plume activity using VOLDORAD-2 (23.5 cm, 60W); then (ii) from May 2013 to 2015 during highly explosive dome activity using a more powerful radar (VOLDORAD-1, 24.2 cm, 800W).
Both radars operated from the Tlamacas station, 5 km north of the crater at 4000 m a.s.l.. The antenna beam points 21° above the horizontal, to a zone right above the crater.
