Wind tunnel
In 2010, the rehabilitation of puy de dome station made it possible to include a new wind tunnel, designed at the IUT of Allier, in order to set up a test center for airborne probes in natural cloudy or clear sky conditions.
Equipped with a 132 kW motor, this west/east oriented open circuit wind tunnel can generate a controlled air flow of up to 17 m3/s
The wind tunnel is therefore used for scientific projects (such as studies of ice crystals for example), for intercomparison of microphysical sensors, taking high volume air samples (clear sky or cloud) or for tests. simulation of new airborne instruments
