Geo-INQUIRE WORKSHOP
"Volcanic Information System (VIS): Remote Infrasound Monitoring of Volcanic Eruptions"
Join us for another on-site workshop exploring how infrasound data can be used to monitor volcanic eruptions — a crucial tool for hazard mitigation and aviation safety. You'll work with real data and learn from top experts in the field.
When and where? Florence, Italy | 28–29 August 2025
Our collegues Rodrigo De Negri (OPGC-LMV, UCA and CNRS), Philippe Labazuy (OPGC-LMV, UCA and CNRS), @Emanuele Marchetti (UNIFI), Duccio Gheri(INGV), Patrick Hupe (BGR), Alexis Pichon (CEA), Sven Peter Näsholm (NORSAR) will introduce you to how volcanoes generate and transmit infrasound. You will learn:
-Tools and methods for remote eruption detection
-The Volcanic Information System (VIS): from theory to hands-on application
-Real-time data use, signal processing, and alert generation
-Understanding ash plume risks & eruption explosivity (VEI > 2)
This workshop is your chance to work on the cutting edge of global eruption monitoring.
